Had my 6500e generator for 4 years and I love it. However, yesterday, it was running for several hours and when I removed the gas cap to refuel it, the cap almost blew right off - NEVER happened before. There was tremendous pressure inside the tank. I removed the vapor hose and blew through it both ways - it was clear. I blew through the valve in the tank and that was also clear. I'm afraid to run the unit now. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Thank you,

Hi and thanks but, there is no vent in the cap. The vent is a valve directly in the tank with an external hose. I checked the hose and the vent valve and both are free and clear.

Sorry for the long delay.
I checked and checked - there is no vent in the cap. There is a valve in the tank iteself with a hose running down the the air filter. I assume this is some type of "rebreather" but, those hoses are clear.

Look I just went out and looked open hood as you look at tank right side of tank is you vent it has a hose coming from it across to other side I see on mine sometime as I close hood it pinches hose maybe yours is getting closed off if not remove the hose maybe hose is clogged next you may have to pull out the plastic vent and see if there is a problem with it ?

Try running it with the hood open and see if you still have the issue. As mentioned earlier, the hose gets pinched some times and will not vent. It should be routed behind the gas cap if the hose is long enough.
