Just bought a 7100 at an auction, so I'm new to this board. It is real clean with 172hrs on the meter and the engine and generator run fine. The battery pack worked (ran a short distance), but wouldn't hold a charge. After removing the 4 12v battery battery pack, I found all 4 sealed cell covers loose, 2 batteries not holding a charge, 1 battery dead with the side cracked, and 1 good battery. Tried to drive the Raven on the engine with the pack removed, thinking the engine/generator would run the drive motor. No such luck! Before shutting off the engine, I metered the NO LOAD charging voltage at the battery pack quick disconnect. It measured 74.3 volts under NO LOAD, which confirmed my suspicion of why the 1 agm battery was cracked and 2 others with shorted cells. Over charging of the 48v battery pack was happening.
My questions are:
1) Has anybody read the charging voltage of the 48v battery pack WITH THE PACK DISCONNECTED,, what voltage are they showing? I'm guessing it should be in the 50+v range. Is the high voltage I'm getting Ok or is it a controller failure issue like I read about on this form. Obviously, before I replace the batteries, I need to make sure the charging system isn't cooking (overcharging) the pack.
2) Before Xmas, the FirstPower 20AH batteries where available on the net at EBAY or Amazon for about $45 each, but now they are no longer available, only 18AH's. Don't know if that is a good or bad sign. Good sign, the 20AH batteries were bad, and Raven charging system is OK. Bad Sign, they just don't make-m anymore and there is some thing wrong with Raven charging system.
After a lot of research, I think I have found some replacements that are better (22AH) and will fit in the Raven. Just ask and I'll post them.
Thanks in advance on any help!

I haven't measured the voltage with pack removed, however, I need to replace mine since I can drive a few feet in electric mode before it stops and I have to try again. I believe its a bad battery. Do you know what size will fit (I will change all 4) and want to keep it to fit the tray.
Thanks

If you remove the pack, you can get the number off the side of one of them. By the way, here is the manual. drive.google.com/file/d/0B9yiSyip84XaaGFEOUlTWFdraTRwYjY4U1QzblBzWHVOSnM0/view?usp=drivesdkHope it helps. Paul

I don't think the FirstPower 20AH batteries are available anymore. You might look up "Mighty Max 12v 22AH SLA", they measure in size real close to the 20AH FirstPower (4 of) in our Raven's. There are a lot of batteries available in the same size, but they have a lower AH value. From what I have been told, the higher the AH (amp hours), the longer the battery run time. UPG 12v 22AH is another one I found. Both are available in two or four packs. Another make "Sigmas Tek"
As mentioned in my post, I really need a "Raveneer" to disconnect their 48v pack and measure the NO LOAD voltage with the engine running, because according to a battery expert I talked to, an "OVER CHARGING CONDITION" kills these AGM batteries. I think I saw someplace here UNDER LOAD CHARGING VOLTAGE @ 54v or less. If someone checked that at the same time and posted it, I would appreciate it. Thanks for the Manual post.

Apex batteries were used as replacement batteries if the First Power were not available. Also SigmaTek from battery shark. The distributor for First Power (ProPower) has not been stocking the required version for the MPV but normally does. They are moving locations and reducing inventory to do so. Should have more soon.
FYI - do not use the Apex as a replacement for the starter battery. Their test system on the top interferes with the mounting brackets.

That's good to know about the starter battery.
I just replaced all three 100A fuses (from waytekwire.com), as my 48v pack was not charging. Every press of the pedal resulted in a battery light and jerky movement. I let it run at idle for 20 minutes, she drove fine, but after sitting for an hour, fits and jerks again. I tried to charge the 4 12v batteries, but at least one appears bad. I'm thinking 4 new batteries are in my near future.

ProPower batteries sent me a note a few weeks ago stating they had the 20ah batteries for the 48v back in stock now. They are the OEM First Power batteries and are much better quality than some of the others online. If one is bad I would replace all four as only installing one and leaving three old ones will only shorten the life of the new one.
Do you have a 48v battery charger. If not, I have them and can also recommend a good one online.

Hey Larry, I am going to source a battery and charger. I have looked at the Apex battery. They are selling for $35.88 each. Let me know about a charger if you could. Thanks, Rayban

Apex are decent batteries and DGP used as replacements. If you are ordering online, then look at ProPower and see how much the First Power batteries are. These are the OEM and a little better then Apex but both will work.
I keep looking for the thread that has it listed but no luck so far.

Is it the charger linked towards the bottom of this thread: raven-mpv.proboards.com/thread/64/power-cuts-hills-electric-mode ?

That's it Dave, thanks. Use the terminal I listed to connect through the gen panel plug.

I took out my battery pack yesterday. 3 of the 4 batteries were reading 4.4 - 6.5 volts. 1 battery was at 12 volts. I charged them and came up with a total of a little over 33 volts. I threw them back in. I am going to run the machine for a half hour or so today, and see if it will budge.
I also ordered 4 "First Power" batteries from amazon for a total of $192.00. I should have them in 2 days. I also ordered the "Tempest" battery charger "BC-48-3000", and dongle "TCA-29" from "Batteryspec.com" $73.54 with shipping.
I should be good to go. My wife won't have to push me around any more to use the generator. BTW, just moved to Eastern NC 2 weeks ago. Looks like a category 3-4 hurricane on Thursday (batteries, on Wednesday). I wish the generator had 240 volts also. I don't mean to complain. 120 will power some stuff if need be. Thank you for all of the help. I will keep you posted. I have plans in the works for a volt meter on the dash
